Job Title:             Low German Family Support Coordinator

Position Type:     Full-time (35 hours per week)

Reports to:          Executive Director


Education Requirements:


  • Post-secondary diploma in social services or equivalent work experience.

 Position Requirements:

  • Ability to speak Low German

  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of Low German population

  • Excellent organization and communication skills in English and Low German

  • Basic computer skills i.e. Microsoft Office/Excel

  • Must have a reliable vehicle with a valid license and insurance to transport participants

  • Police Record Check-vulnerable sector

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of the participants

  • Resourceful and creative problem-solving

  • Experience developing community-based programs

  • Knowledge of various service systems and community resources

  • Individual and group support skills

  • Knowledge of child development and parenting skills

  • Ability to adapt to participants needs

  • Be adequately trained and apply the principles of trauma-sensitive practice


Job Responsibilities:

English School Program

  • Coordinate support of Literacy Groups to provide class content

  • Implement  and supervise program activities and transportation

  • Recruit, train and supervise Child-Minders and Volunteers

  • Enroll Moms and Children

Family Support/Outreach

  • Work collaboratively with other programs and services to effectively and efficiently address the concerns of the LG community

  • Assist individuals and families to access relevant community resources

  • Accompany individuals/families to health visits to assist with language and cultural interpretation

  • Provide emotional support for families through home visits and telephone contacts

  • Provide translation/interpretation support to families and community agencies

Program Development

  • Work collaboratively with other programs and services

  • Design and implement new program initiatives and directions as determined through planning and evaluation

  • Maintain a connection with other FESP sites for information sharing and learning

  • Provide translation/interpretation support to community agencies

  • Supervise/work collaboratively with other LGFS staff to ensure program efficiency and effectiveness

General Responsibilities

  • Adopt and model the mission, vision and values of  the WCS

  • Comply with all WCS policies and procedures

  • Participate fully in staff meetings and agency functions

  • Participate in professional development opportunities as they become available

  • Complete all program statistics as required

  • Create and update a “how-to” job task manual

  • Train, support, schedule and celebrate program volunteers

  • Obtain and keep current all certification requirements for the position

  • Support staff in meeting community requests

  • Other duties as assigned
