Full-time Child & Youth Worker Required for 8 Month Contract
Rural Child Wellbeing Project, Woolwich Township Location
Woolwich Community Services (WCS), a social service agency providing opportunities and resources for all residents of Woolwich, requires a contract full-time Child & Youth Worker (35 hours per week) for an 8 month contract (with possible extension) in Elmira.
This new position will work with the Rural Child Wellbeing Project to provide social and recreational programs for children 6-13 years of age living in Woolwich Township. This position will work closely with the other three Child & Youth Workers for the project (one position for each of Wellesley, Wilmot and North Dumfries) and will collaborate to develop specific plans within each township to meet the needs of children.
The Child & Youth Worker will work collaboratively with project staff and the community stakeholders to identify children’s program needs, program delivery locations and potential partnerships to offer children’s programming to complement existing programs and services. This role will also work collaboratively with partner agencies to work to expand the range of programming available in the rural townships.
This position will also include working a flexible schedule with evenings and two Saturdays a month at the Youth Centre. Due to the Covid pandemic more creative flexibility may be required for this position. Office space will be provided at Woolwich Community Services.
a. Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences and volunteer supervision experience
b. Background in recreation, child and youth work, social services
c. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
d. Proficient in the use of computers and various software applications
e. Possess an ability to work well with people and exemplary customer service skills
f. Be flexible, highly organized and a self-starter
g. Use a non-judgmental approach
h. Have knowledge of community resources an asset
i. Be able to problem solve, manage time well and be able to prioritize responsibilities
j. Be able to work independently with minimal direction
k. Have access to transportation
l. CPR and First Aid certificate
Wages are $17.23/hour and 35 hours per week.
